About FoRT, part of Haliburton County Community Cooperative

The mission of Friends of the Rail Trail (FoRT) is

"connecting community and rail trail" through

events, membership, education and partnerships

FoRT's three areas of focus are: History / Nature / Access

- telling the story of our railway history

- discovering and conserving rail trail biodiversity

- promoting access to public greenspace for all ages and abilities

Friends of the Rail Trail is proud to be part of the Haliburton County Community Cooperative which has this mandate:

"Encourage, develop and support entrepreneurial initiatives that contribute to the social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being of Haliburton County and its residents."

The Cooperative is a non-profit incorporated entity managed by a Board, with a designated FoRT liaison. FoRT is managed by an autonomous management committee, supported by generous volunteer efforts. Organizational capacity is enhanced by partnering with community organizations.
