Sunday Rambles:

Our signature program of weekly outings on Haliburton rail trails in the quiet months of April and May*, Sunday Rambles offer a bit of History, a bit of Nature - and always a social lunch Aprés.

Ramble out and back at your own pace. A supportive atmosphere welcomes all abilities, and well-socialized dogs. A wonderful opportunity for the generations to meet.

New for 2012: ATVs are allowed May 14* to November 30, on the HCRT, the Haliburton County Rail Trail. You may choose to walk or cycle the trail during these months at your own risk.

FoRT's "Rambles 2011 Map" is an excellent reference to illustrate HCRT and I,B&O access points, but Friends of the Rail Trail does not own or manage these trails and assumes no liability

Click here or on map image >>> to view/download the Rambles 2011 Map pdf. There will NOT be a 2012 Map update. Follow the same pattern for this year, noting we have lost the last two weeks in May to the ATVs. May 20 is "to be determined". May 27 will leave from Rails End Gallery in Haliburton Village and ramble to the Sculpture Forest, Arboretum, and Museum. Lunch Aprés will be at the Heritage House Cafe. This is part of FoRT's local initiative, in partnership with Dysart et al, to create a Village Pathway Network around the lake and townsite.

2012 is FoRT's 5th Anniversary, and International Year of Cooperatives

FoRT is part of the Haliburton County Community Cooperative. To mark this anniversary, FoRT has a grand five year plan to bring the HCRT into the Trans Canada Trail in 2017. This will require major community support. We're calling it the Greenway Campaign. Watch for more details or contact FoRT.

Sunday June 3 - Members Jazz Evening in the Log House at Wildwood Farm - This exclusive annual event attracts more interest than the four walls can accommodate. Reserve today for good food, good company and live jazz in the ambiance of an 1840's hand-hewn log house. Call Pamela (705) 457-4767 to reserve.

Saturday July 22 - Stanhope Heritage Cycling Tour - An easy 10 km loop, a guided tour designed to get lapsed cyclists back on their bikes, or welcome novice cyclists out. Tour begins (10:00 am) and ends at Buttermilk Falls picnic area off Hwy 35, 7 km N of Hwy 118 in Carnarvon. This route is so gentle and shady, it's almost like a rail trail. Enjoy several points of pioneer heritage interest and a lovely setting for your picnic lunch.
